The Effect of Play Therapy for Child with Attachment Behavior in Reactive Attachment Disorder and Mother

Abstract

|
This study was designed to find out the effect of play therapy affect attachment reaction of the Reactive Attachment Disorder(RAD) child and his mother.
The issues of the study were (a) play therapy´s effect on improvement of RAD child´s attachment reaction; (b) play therapy´s effect on improvement of mother´s attachment reaction; (c) comparison of mother and child´s behavior; and (d) play therapy´s effect on increase of RAD child´s social development.
The subject was 2-years boy who participated for 3 months in play therapy. The play session was recorded on video and audio tapes. Observer analyzed the results of records of every session. The main contents of the records were the change of play and child´s attitude toward the mother. The assessment of the attachment behavior of the child and the mother was utilized before the initial treatment and after the final treatment with MIM(Marschak Interaction Method).
The results of this study were that (a) the child´s attachment behavior improved; (b)the mother´s attachment behavior also increased; (c) the mother´s improvement was more extensive than that of the child´s improvement: and (d) the child´s social interaction developed. Therefore, this study concluded that the play therapy was a excellent strategy to improve attachment behavior for child and mother.
